Letter from the Marquise de Amodio
18th January, 2014
Dear past and present Berrow Foundation Scholars and Berrow Foundation Lord Florey Scholars, In order to perpetuate the name of the Berrow Foundation Scholarships, funds have been provided for the refurbishment of a building in Lincoln College to be named THE BERROW FOUNDATION BUILDING. This comprises a new MCR on the ground floor complete with a chimney over mantel in oak by a Swiss woodcarver commemorating the Scholarships' connection between Oxford University and the Swiss Universities. The first floor is to be the renovated Music Room named in memory of the founder of the MCR, Rector Oakeshott. The official opening will take place on Saturday afternoon, 25th October, 2014, in presence of HG The Bishop of Lincoln and HE Mr Furgler, Swiss Ambassador to the United Kingdom. It will be followed by a short concert in the Music Room and refreshments. This will be an historic occasion not only for the College but especially for you all who have been chosen as the elite Berrow Foundation Scholars. Your presence at the event to witness this tribute would be an honour for the College and the Foundation but also an opportunity to strengthen links between alumni past and present who can count themselves among the 113 Berrow Foundation Scholars to date since the creation of the scheme in 1985. In order to make the weekend a celebration it has been decided to hold The Berrow Society Dinner (Black Tie) in College on Friday, 24th October, in the presence of a few special guests. However, places are limited due to space so it is 'first come first in'. Please send a message to our President, Dr Juliette Vuille, at the latest by 31st March if you are likely to attend so that the College may draw up a guest list in order to send out the official invitations in May. Thank you. It may be difficult to reserve a bed in College so a list of Bed and Breakfast addresses will be issued soon. Hoping to have the great pleasure of meeting as many of you as possible again at the Berrow Foundation Building weekend next October, I take this opportunity of congratulating you all on your individual career successes and send you my very best wishes for an happy and successful 2014. Yours sincerely, The Marquise de Amodio |
